Festival of Indoor Hockey

Well, much has been done in preparation for the upcoming Australian Indoor Hockey Championships, but … we need some more assistance to finalise all the work.

So … the Working Bee has been extended to include:

Tomorrow – Monday 28 Dec.

&

Tuesday 29 Dec.

It will once again start around 9am and if volunteers are available will run through to 8pm each day, but hopefully if enough hands are available this won’t be necessary.

The remaining tasks include, but may not be limited to:
Full size field markings
Lacquering of refurbished Indoor boards
Completing the removal of fence and filling holes and levelling ground
Setting up of cane screening near water tank
Positioning and cutting of synthetic turf rolls in BBQ area and old fence line
Final positioning of stands in stadium
Final positioning of bench seats, tech benches, etc
Setup of end curtain across stadium
Another general clean of rooms, windows, etc
If you can spare just one hour or more to share the workload and finalise these tasks it would be most gratefully appreciated.

The program starts on January 4th, see the PDF linked document below for details:

2014 U15 Champions

Even though 19 is a very large squad, the first game of the season, due to illness, injury and other commitments,  we only just managed to field a team!

This team improved throughout the season. in the early games they deferred constantly to the ‘big three’ of Daine, Comfort and Cody. With Daine away for the last three rounds of the regular season it was hoped that the rest of the squad would realize what they were capable of both individually and as a team. With Cody rostered off, they were dreading the game against the undefeated Wests Red. After Comfort’s moral boosting ‘Come on guys, it’s only 2-0, that’s a win!” and Cody’s coach talk at half time they started the second half with renewed vigor. At the end of the game, and having been beaten 5-0 you would expect the team to be very downhearted. The opposite was true, they cheered and whooped all the great performances, especially Kyle’s slides and one-on-one saves and Comfort’s sliding stick save across the goal! This was a turning point for many of them and was shown in their ability to play as a team in the next two must-win games.

At the end of the regular season we had come second on the ladder to Wests Red. We would play them in the semi-final. Whilst the whole team thought that we had a chance no one thought it would be easy. With great effort from the whole team we held out to win our place in the Grand Final.

To the surprise of all, our Grand Final opponents were Uni. The game was played in great spirit and our fabulous Fairy Meadow Falcons were the deserved winners!

Team: Isaac Amaru, Tess Atkinson, Cody Bain, Casey Cleary, Jack Dunn, Scarlet Dunn, Comfort Ferguson, Ben Horsley, Luke Horsley, Lachlan Jones, Eleanor Mantei, Rochelle McMahon-Sosefo, Sam Mulhearn, Daine Richards, Eric Smith, Michael Smith, Bradley Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Piper Thompson.

2014 Falcon Men’s

2014 saw our 2nd grade men’s make semi’s but unfortunately not progressing to the finals. Our 3rd grade team only just missed out on a semi-final appearance and our 5th grade team fought competitively all season.

2014 also saw the committee make the unwanted decision to not field a 1st grade squad. This was a difficult but ultimately pragmatic decision. it provided the committee an opportunity to look differently at the local men’s 1st grade and our clubs ability to effectively sustain a competitive side. Along with considering stand alone options in 2015 the club investigated opportunities to partner with other clubs in fielding 1st and 2nd grade squads in 2015. The committee in consultation with senior club members and our higher grade men’s players have decided to pursue a joint Falcons/Uni 1st grade program in 2015.

2014 Falcons Women

The last few years we have talked about being in a ‘re-building phase’. We have been waiting for this great group of girls who are coming up from juniors. Eevery year we say ‘they’re coming, they’re coming’!

Well this year they were here and what a great season it has been. All 3 teams in the semis and 2 teams in the Grand Final. (Year finished with 1st runners up, 2nds coming 4th & 4ths runners up)

The Falcons are back!

Carly Haddon led the charge out of juniors a few years ago and proved herself this year as a solid member of the 1st grade team. Lilli and Zoe also graduated from U18’s this year and have joined the 1st grade team. Next cohort to come through juniors is Jessica, Comfort and Isobel, and whilst still playing U18’s will be further establishing themselves as valuable members of our women’s squads. Whilst they are still referred to as our ‘babies’, this year Eleanor and Scarlet firmly established themselves in our 2nd grade team.

The exciting thing is that this is just the beginning. More girls are emerging from our juniors to enter grade, Ella, Casey and Rochelle just to name a few,
